Aldermere Farm Annual Calf Unveiling Day
Aldermere Farm will host its seventh annual Calf Unveiling Day on Saturday May 10th from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The general public is invited to tour the Farm and visit with the newly born Belted Galloway calves. Aldermere staff and volunteers will be on site speaking with visitors and providing information about the Farm and herd.
Several other local farms will also be on site offering information regarding the goods they produce. These farms will display their goods for people to see, touch, sample, and buy. The local farms participating this year include Sunnyside Farm that raise goats, Spruce Mountain Blueberries with blueberry items, Sewall Orchard with organic apple cider and cider vinegar, Village Farm Alpacas with yarn and information on their farm, State of Maine Cheese Company with various types of cheeses, Blue Sky Alpacas with alpacas and yarns, and Ells Farm & Sheep Dairy with meat samples, sheep skins, and yarn. Tanglewood 4-H Camp and Learning Center and Maine Ag In The Classroom will have items on display with information about their many opportunities. Also, come and see the National Ag Week Poster Contest entries from students third through eighth grade in the five towns which promote local farms and the products that they sell.
This has been a very popular event in the past and is a great day for learning about local agriculture. All are welcome and this event is free, so come with your families rain or shine. Also visit Aldermere Farm’s new web site at www.aldermere.org to learn more about the Farm and to see all the events and programs they offer year round. They are dedicated to offering many agricultural and ecological opportunities for youth and adults on the 136-acre salt-water farm, which is owned and managed by Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Aldermere Farm is located at 20 Russell Ave. in Rockport, ME.
