Erickson Farm Campaign a Success!

With little time to accomplish so much, Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Maine Farmland Trust and a legion of passionate local volunteers joined together to raise $1.1 million for the purchase and preservation of Erickson Farm on Route 90 in Rockport. The exciting conclusion to the effort was marked by a community celebration and picnic in the hayfield that included games for kids, lively music, exclusive views of property, and a visit with the Belties.

The protection of the property means that Aldermere can continue to use the land for grazing as well as to produce hay for themselves and the many livestock farms in the Midcoast area that depend upon Aldermere for their hay needs. In addition, Aldermere will be leading a variety of community forums to begin planning for how one of Erickson Farm’s 4-acre fields will be managed for gardening in a way that enhances youth programs, expands educational opportunities and meets other community needs.
