MCHT Land Conference A Success

Maine’s land conservation community showed its remarkable talent and commitment to conservation and vibrant Maine communities at the 2009 Maine Land Conservation Conference, hosted by Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Participants heard about many wonderful projects that link conservation, economic development and community including a land trust working to create local markets for local goods and others making very direct connections between land conservation projects, downtown and economic development, recreational opportunities, and affordable housing. The broad vision and deliberate, proactive steps that land trusts are engaging in to conserve land AND build and sustain vibrant communities is impressive. With field courses and more than 30 workshops spanning two days, the conference provided training and networking to 450 people over the course of two days.
