Ski and Snowshoe by Moonlight or Day at Aldermere Farm this February
The ski and snowshoe season at Aldermere Farm continues into February! Cross-country ski and snowshoe enthusiasts are invited to explore Aldermere Farm’s trails and participate in one of its guided ski or snowshoe tours. At 6:30 PM on February 27th, the night before the full moon, Aldermere staff will lead skiers around the farm on a Moonlight Cross-Country Ski. The full moon and luminaries will light the way. The trails are groomed and run through the large open pastures at the Farm as well as wooded areas. At the end of the trail, there will be a small bonfire, hot chocolate, and treats to enjoy.
For those who prefer daytime excursions, Aldermere is also offering guided lunchtime tours. On February 12th and 26th at noon, Aldermere Farm staff will lead a guided ski of the trails. On February 19th at noon, there will be a guided lunchtime snowshoe trek.
Previous experience on skies is recommended, and participants should bring all their own gear. For the moonlight ski, participants should also have a headlamp or flashlight especially for skiing through the darker wooded sections.
Reservations are required due to limited space, so please call Aldermere Farm at 236-2739 or email jbeach@mcht.org to reserve space for you and your friends. These tours are free to the public; donations are appreciated. Volunteers are also needed to be guides or to bring some baked goods to share, so please call the farm if you are able to help out. All people attending the guided daytime tours on Fridays or the moonlight ski tours should meet at the main barn at 20 Russell Avenue before hitting the trail. Park just off the road along Russell Ave.
For those who cannot make the guided tours, Aldermere’s trails are open to the general public during daylight hours. There are two access points to the ski trails. One is across the road from the Aldermere Farm sign near 20 Russell Ave., and the other is down the side road off of Russell Ave., across from Calderwood Lane (look for the open gate through the cattle pen). In both locations, please park on the shoulder of Russell Ave. where the snow has been cleared.
