Internships at the Farm
We are excited to announce that we have two internship positions available most summers for upper level college students who are pursuing careers in Agriculture, Agriculture Education, Animal Science, or Veterinary Medicine.
One of the internships is for a student who has experience with cattle, who has gained a great amount of schooling on beef cattle, and who has purebred fitting and showing experience. The other internship opportunity is for someone who has a background in agriculture education, but who also has had experience working on a farm. These two internship opportunities require working on the farm most weekdays assisting farm staff as well as running agricultural education programs for both kids(ages 12-18) and adults. Also, both interns will go with a traveling veterinarian to different farms once a week. The internships will culminate by assisting 4-H youth at a local agricultural fair, which ends in late August. Housing is provided and a weekly stipend given.
Since 1953 this beautiful, coastal farm has been one of the premiere Belted Galloway breeders in the world. In 1999, Mr. A. H. Chatfield bequeathed Aldermere Farm to the Maine Coast Heritage Trust. The farm remains working and progressive. Not only does Aldermere Farm utilize many modern practices such as embryo transfer and artificial insemination, but it also stays true to the most natural and environmentally friendly methods to accomplish its goals. Aldermere Farm is open to the public and welcomes many visitors each year, educating people about the importance of agriculture and preserved lands.
Please apply for these internships using the application provided below. If you need an application or have questions please contact us using the information provided.
