Aldermere Farm Art Show & Sale
Aug 10 - Aug 11, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, at Aldermere Farm
Join us for our annual Aldermere Farm Art Show and Sale Saturday, August 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, August 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the historic Aldermere farmhouse at 20 Russell Ave in Rockport.
The show is a tribute to the coastal lands and islands that MCHT has worked to preserve since 1970. It highlights local artists who capture the beauty of Maine’s coast and Aldermere’s saltwater farm with its Belted Galloway cattle through original paintings and prints. This year’s poster features “Endearment,” an oil and cold wax painting by Leecia Price of Camden.
The show includes original oil paintings by George Van Hook, an artist from Philadelphia nationally known for his impressionistic, en plein art works. All proceeds from the sales of these paintings will benefit MCHT’s agricultural programs in Rockport. George and his wife, Sue Van Hook, have a 30-year history with Aldermere Farm. The original owners of Aldermere, Albert Chatfield Jr. and Marion Chatfield, became acquainted with the Van Hooks in the early 1980’s when Sue, who at that time was MCHT’s director of land conservation and stewardship, helped them establish easements on their property. Ever since the Chatfields invited George to stay at Aldermere for plein air painting, he has periodically returned for artistic inspiration.
Aldermere beef and Belted Galloway-themed items will be for sale. Funds raised will support the agricultural programs and operations at Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields Preserve. We are seeking artists to submit pieces for the annual Art Show and Sale being held Saturday, August 10 from 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday, August 11 from 11 am to 2 pm at the historic farmhouse located on the Aldermere Farm, 20 Russell Ave in Rockport.
Artists seeking inspiration are invited to Aldermere Farm for plein air painting around the preserve. Artists may set up their easels along the roadside to paint the Belted Galloway cattle in the pastures or stroll down one of the preserve’s walking trails for picturesque views of the ocean and Lily Pond. Trail maps are available at the office located at 70 Russell Avenue.
The art show raises funds to support agricultural programming for local youth and highlights local artists who capture the beauty of Maine’s coastal lands through original paintings and prints of coastal and pastoral vistas, Aldermere Farm and its world-renowned Belted Galloway cattle.
Artwork may be framed or matted originals in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, and pastel, or prints of paintings that portray the Belted Galloway cattle, Aldermere Farm scenery, Maine coastal scenes, or the Erickson Fields Preserve. Participants may donate 30% or 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their artwork. Registration forms are due by Friday, July 26.
MCHT’s Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields Preserve properties are preserved working farms in Rockport that produce fresh local food for the community, offer many agriculturally related programs and events, and help visitors gain a better appreciation for land conservation and sustainable agriculture.
