Knox County Food Council: Food, Farms, Environment, and People’s Rights

Oct 11, 2022, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Register to join the Zoom meeting

The Knox County Food Council (KCFC) will hold a virtual meeting for the public to discuss food security, food sovereignty, preserving farms and farmlands, and PFAS response in Knox County. The meeting will be held Tuesday, October 11, 5:00-6:00 PM via Zoom. Everyone is welcome; the meeting is free of charge.

Throughout 2022, KCFC hosted a series of monthly virtual presentations on regional food system topics. The October 11th meeting will be a continuation of the talk KCFC held on July 12, 2022, with Valli Geiger, Representative for District 93, and Bill Pluecker, Representative for District 95. During that meeting, Geiger and Pleucker discussed state legislation to support food security, local food production, land use and water issues in Maine. Both representatives covered towns in Knox County during the 130th Legislature and provided background information and an update about efforts around these issues during the legislative session. Recordings of that discussion and other KCFC’s presentations, including the August meeting presentation from Ken Morse of the Maine Food Policy Workgroup, which discussed recent state and federal food and farms legislation in detail as well, are available online at aldermere.org/kcfc.

The KCFC Steering Committee has launched a brief survey to help determine regional priorities around the topics to be discussed on October 11 and follow-up actions. Residents and businesses of Knox County are invited to take this six-question survey online at aldermere.org/kcfc or call Joelle Albury at 207-236-2739 to request a paper copy.
