Beltie Beef for Sale

Call Jennifer Jardine at 207-236-2739 or email jjardine@mcht.org if you are interested in purchasing some of our "Beltie" Beef.

Throughout the year we have "Beltie" Beef available for sale at the farm. For those who have not purchased through us before:

Our cattle are raised using valued "All Natural" practices, which include no fed antibiotics or added growth hormones, and are raised on our high quality pastures and finished with grain supplementation. Belted Galloway beef is noted for having outstanding flavor and tenderness as compared to commercial beef sold in stores. We sell our freezer beef as family packs, eighths, and "quarters," each of which would provide you with a sampling of cuts including steaks, roasts, hamburger, stew meat, etc. When buying beef, you are not buying a "front" or "rear" quarter, but a mixture of all cuts from the carcass.

We price each quarter by the carcass weight, which is the weight of the product as it hangs, before it is de-boned and packaged. Typical whole carcasses weigh between 575 to 700 pounds and thus at the $3.00 per pound rate, a quarter would cost between $400 and $500. The eighths are also at $3.00 per pound, but family packs are at retail prices. The cuts are vacuum-packaged, which preserves the beef longer, and then are frozen allowing you to pop them right into your freezer. Hamburger is for sale in individual one pound packages at $4.00 a pound.

What is in a Quarter?

Each quarter will vary somewhat but these are the general types of cuts and approximately how many are in each quarter of beef:

Cut Approx. #
Hamburger 45—1 lb packs
Stew Meat 5 packages
Ribs 2 packages
Sirloin Roast 1 package
Porterhouse 1 package
Tenderloins 2 packages
Top Round 2 packages
Rump Roast 2 packages
Sirloin Steak 1 package
Bottom Round 1 package
Liver 2 packages
Chuck Roast 3 packages
Soup Bones 2 packages
London Broil 2 packages
Eye of Round 1 package
Heart 1 package
Rib Steak 4 packages
T-bone Steak 2 packages

After cutting and packaging a quarter, the actual weight of the meat will be somewhere around 80 to 100 pounds. To give you a sense for the volume and thus freezer space needed, a quarter fits into approximately two to three boxes the size of a "banana box," which are approximately 16" wide by 9" tall by 24" long. All weights and prices are estimates as they can vary depending upon the size of the animal. Eighths are around 50 pounds and family packs are 25 pounds of beef.

People who do not have a full size freezer sometimes purchase and divide a quarter with other family members or friends or they prefer to purchase an eighth or family pack.

After we confirm your order we will be able to give you a date that the meat will be available to be picked up here at the farm or in some cases, delivered. Shipping is not available.
