Beltie Holiday

Dec 3, 2022, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, at Aldermere Farm

Come celebrate Beltie Holiday with the cows at the Aldermere Farm! Don your most festive (or ugliest) holiday sweaters and have your photos taken with a Belted Galloway calf. There will be free take-home kits to make Beltie ornaments, a bake sale to support the Aldermere Achievers 4-H Club, handmade balsam fir wreaths for sale by Peopleplace Cooperative Preschool, and information about the youth agriculture programs hosted at MCHT’s Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields Preserves. Attendees will have the opportunity to enter their names in a raffle to win a beautiful, wood toy barn! The winning raffle ticket will be drawn the following week.

We will share information about the Aldermere & Erickson Campaign, launched by Maine Coast Heritage Trust in May 2022, to raise $3+Million for critical new infrastructure and equipment at Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields. “These improvements will enable us to better serve the Midcoast community for decades to come,” says Heidi Baker, General Manager of Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields. “Because of the generosity of so many donors, we are nearly two-thirds of the way toward our goal.”

Under construction now at Aldermere Farm is a dual-purpose barn and visitor center with an accessible vestibule, grain room, washroom, storage areas, office, and balcony that will offer top-down viewing of the working barn below. Erickson Fields is undergoing trail upgrades and adding a new open-air barn to house equipment for programing, gardening, and food distribution. During Beltie Holiday, you will have the opportunity to view the site where Aldermere’s new educational barn will be built!

Donation will be collected to fund the supply of Aldermere beef to hunger-relief agencies. Thanks to generous support from the community, Aldermere Farm was able to donate more than 1,000 lbs. of beef to local food pantries last year.

After visiting Aldermere Farm, take a 5-minute drive to Erickson Fields Preserve (164 West St, Rockport) where you can immerse yourself in good book while strolling through the woods. Pages of Owl Moon by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr will be posted along the 1.4-mile loop trail courtesy of the Rockport Public Library.
