Beach to Beech 5K
On October 14th, the Rockport community celebrated the grand opening of the newest extension of MCHT’s trail at Erickson Fields during the Beach to Beech 5K. The race was organized by MCHT and local fitness center Stone Coast Wellness and was attended by over 40 runners and walkers who made the trek from Rockport Harbor along route 90, through Erickson Fields Preserve to the top of Coast Mountain Land Trust’s Beech Hill. Taking part in the celebration were two local nonprofits that helped raise funds for the trail’s construction: The Camden-Rockport Pathways Committee, whose mission it is to create connecting pedestrian and bicycle pathways through both towns, and Legacy Rockport, a nonprofit founded on the recommendation of the 2004 Comprehensive Plan to build an endowment for projects that benefit all Rockport citizens.
The extended trail is 6-8 feet wide and completes a safe, easy walking path from Route 90 to Beech Hill Road where pedestrians may walk along the roadside to reach CMLT’s Beech Hill Preserve.
