Aldermere and Erickson Fields updates

While social distancing has hindered public gatherings, Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields have expanded their community outreach through hunger-relief initiatives.

Through the Knox County Food Council and Knox County Gleaners, Aldermere Farm distributed 800 pounds of ground beef to eight food pantries. The Teen Ag Crew at Erickson Fields expanded their distribution to start supplying the Pen Bay Healthcare Picker Family Resource Center’s pantry each week. MCHT helped organize the August MidCoast Regional Dialogue for Maine Food Convergence, a statewide project to build greater connectivity and resilience within Maine’s food system.

MCHT trails throughout the state remain open, Teen Ag Crew and farm apprentices are donning face masks while they work together in the fields, Aldermere Achievers 4-H Club members are sharing their projects and stories online, families are harvesting food in the community garden in Rockport, and the Aldermere herd continues greeting visitors along Russell Avenue.

MCHT is currently accepting applications for the 2021 Farm Apprenticeship programs at Aldermere Farm and Erickson Fields. Prospective applicants can email Joelle Albury at for more information.
