Knox County Food Council Discusses Emergency Services & Food Security

On November 9th, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm, the Knox County Food Council will host a virtual group discussion around emergency services and food security in Knox County. The Council will be joined by guest speaker, Candice Richards, Administrative Programs Coordinator of Knox County Emergency Management Agency.
In March 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic loomed, several food pantries contacted Candice Richards at EMA. In response, Candice organized a meeting with Knox County food pantries to field questions about emergency food planning. This evolved into regular virtual meetings hosted by Candice and Lorain Francis from Penquis for local food pantries to discuss food insecurity, share supply updates and pandemic concerns, and stay informed of emergency support from the State and Federal governments.
The Knox County Food Council is a cohort of citizens, organizations, and businesses in Knox County advocating for a community-based healthy food system for all. The Council’s monthly meetings are open to the public and are held online via Zoom from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM on the first Tuesday of every month.
